Background: THE QUEEN'S MILLINER, SIMONE MIRMAN, PRESENTED HER 1970 SPRING AND SUMMER HAT COLLECTION AT A LONDON FASHION SHOW ON TUESDAY (MARCH 24.)
THE COLLECTION IS DESCRIBED AS "VERY FEMININE, YOUNG AND DASHING"; AND DESIGNED TO BALANCE THE VARIOUS LINES SHOWN BY LEADING COUTURIERS IN PARIS, LONDON AND ITALY.

MADAME MIRMAN PREDICTS THAT COWBOY-STYLE HATS WILL BE "ALL THE RAGE" THIS YEAR, AND THIS IS INDICATED IN HER COLLECTION, WHICH FEATURES A NUMBER OF MEXICAN SOMBREROS, COWBOY 'VIVA MARIA' AND BOATERS-ALL WORN STRAIGHT ON THE HEAD. FOR DAY WEAR THERE ARE GIPSY AND CHINESE TURBANS, NAUTICAL CAPS, DEEP CLOTHES AND LITTLE BONNETS-ALL WORN OFF THE FACE. THE BONNET IS CLASSIFIED AS "PURITAN-STYLE".

THE 'WEDDINGS AND RACE MEETINGS' SECTION INCLUDED LARGE CAPELINES AND BOATERS WITH WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS "FOLLOW ME LAD" TRIMMINGS; TOGETHER WITH HATS WITH HUGE TRANSPARENT BRIMS.

MADAME MIRMAN'S NEWEST-AND MOST REVOLUTIONARY-INNOVATION WAS RESERVED FOR COCKTAIL AND EVENING WEAR. SHE HAS DESIGNED A WIG WHICH CAN BE WORN INSTEAD OF A HAT. ACCORDING TO THE LONDON-BASED MILLINER, "THIS MAKES LIFE EASY WHEN ONE HAS TO RUSH OFF TO A COCKTAIL PARTY AND THERE IS NO TIME TO VISIT THE HAIRDRESSER". IN ONE CREATION, SHE HAS PINNED POPPIES ON A WIG-AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT SHE CALLS "WIGS WITH A LITTLE NONSENSE ATTACHED".

BRILLIANT COLOURS PREDOMINATE THROUGHOUT THE COLLECTION; YELLOWS, GREENS, GINGER, NAVY BLUE, BLACK AND CHALK WHITE.

THE HAT MATERIALS ARE MOSTLY LIGHT, AND INCLUDE ORGANZA, ORGANDIE, VEILING, PRINTED SILK, PRINTED COTTON, PIQUE, TRANSPARENT PLASTIC, 'WET LOOK' VINYL, SUEDE, PLAITED CORK, WICKER STRAW AND RAFFIA.

MADAME MIRMAN DESIGNS HATS FOR SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY, APART FROM QUEEN ELIZABETH.
