    PRESIDENT KENYATTA OF KENYA YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) UNVEILED A MEMORIAL AT THE EAST AFRICA SCOTTISH MISSION'S FIRST MISSION FOUNDED IN THE COUNTRY 70 YEARS AGO. THE ANNIVERSARY CEREMONY TOOK PLACE IN KIKUYU, NEAR NAIROBI, WHERE THE PRIVATE MISSION WAS FOUNDED IN 1898 FOR THE KIKUYU AND MASAI PEOPLES.

    THE MODERATOR OF THE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND, THE RIGHT REVEREND DR. WILLIAM ROY SANDERSON, FLEW OUT TO KENYA FOR THE CEREMONY.

    THE EAST AFRICA SCOTTISH MISSION FOUNDED MISSION FOUNDED IN 1898,ITS FIRST MISSION IN KIKUYU FROM A BEGINNING AS FAR BACK AS 1889 WHEN SIR WILLIAM MACKINNON AND ALEXANDER LOW BRUCE FORMULATED PLANS FOR A PRIVATE SCOTTISH MISSION TO THE KIKUYU AND MASA PEOPLES.

    PRESBYTERIAN WORK IN THE AREA HAS CONTINUED UNBROKEN OVER THE YEARS. IT SURVIVED A SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC AND AN ARMED INSURRECTION, AND TODAY THERE ARE EIGHT PRESBYTERIES IN THE CHURCH IN EAST AFRICA.
