Background: A team of Japanese aviation officials surveyed the wreckage of a Japan Airlines DC-8 on Thursday (15 June) which crashed the day before on its approach to Delhi International Airport, killing 84 passengers and crew and three labourers on the ground.

Five people, including three children survived the crash. Eyewitnesses said the aircraft caught fire in mid-air and plunged into fields near Jaitpur, some 15 miles (25 kilometres) south of New Delhi.

The Japanese investigation team was headed by Japan Airlines Vice-President Mr Yeshine Takagi, who said the cause of the crash was not yet known.

As the officials carried out their inspection, rescue workers continued to search the debris for charred remains of the crash victims.

After filming the crash site, Visnews cameraman Satya managed with great difficulty to film one child who survived the crash at a New Delhi Hospital. The children are all reported to be doing well, but medical reports described the condition of the two adult survivors as serious.
