  • Description

Three armed bandits released a 9-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl they had been holding hostage and then surrendered to waiting police to end the siege in a jeweller's shop in the northern Italian town of Ivrea on Friday (30 January).

The siege began on Thursday when the three men burst into the shop of jeweller Secondino Blessent and tried to rob him.

A Police patrol virtually caught the men in the act, and the bandits seized Blessent, his son Dino and a shopgirl when their holdup attempt was foiled
It's believed Blessent then tried to escape. The robbers shot him dead.

They held the two young people prisoners, demanding a fast getaway car from police, who at this stage had surrounded the building.

The three men retreated to a flat above the shop with their two hostages as police moved sharpshooters in and refused to meet any of the gunmen's demands.

Eventually the men released their hostages and laid down their weapons. They were quickly hand-cuffed and taken from the scene in different police vehicles.
