    WHEN MR. LEE KUAR YEW. THE LEADER OF THE PARTY (AND FUTURE PRIME MINISTER) CALLED A PRESS CONFERENCE ON JUNE 1, THE FIRST AFTER THE ELECTIONS, SOME ONE HUNDRED PER PRESSMEN CROWDED IN THE PAP OFFICE TO HEAR MR. LEE:
    MEANWHILE, MR. LEE KUAN YEW CONTINUED HIS TALKS WITH THE GOVERNOR ON THE FORMATION OF THE GOVERNMENT.

    AFTER HIS SECOND VISIT TO THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE, MR. LEE TOLD WAITING NEWSMEN -- WHOSE ENTHUSIASM WAS NOT DAMPENED BY A HEAVY DOWNPOUR - THAT HE WAS AWAITING THE GOVERNOR'S REPLY TO THE PARTY DEMAND THAT EIGHT PAP LEADERS NOW IN DETENTION SHOULD BE RELEASED PRIOR TO THE FORMATION OF A GOVERNMENT.

    MR. K. C. LEE, THE PAP PUBLICITY CHIEF WHO WAS WITH MR. LEE KUAN YEW AT THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE MEETING, TOLD MEWSMEN THAT THE CHANCES OF THE RELEASE OF THE DETAINEES WERE BRIGHT. A FINAL REPLY WAS EXPECTED BY THE SAME AFTERNOON, HE SAID.
