    COMMENTARY AS FOLLOWS: They attempted to sit down too in the street to block traffic onto the base. At this point civilian police moved in, dragging the demonstrators from the street and arresting forty-one of them. Alameda is home port for several aircraft carriers operating in the Vietnam war zone.



    Later in the day, across the bay in San Francisco, anti-war violence flared briefly outside the Federal building, as war protestors set firs to a Government station wagon. The fire was the culmination of a day of protests outside the building, while inside a group of self-proclaimed Vietnam war veterans had taken over an air force recruitment office. Federal agents and city police moved into the building arresting the Vietnam vets against the war. Other police cleared the area outside, charging into the crowd dragging off demonstrators who refused to disperse. Twenty-one persons were carted off to city prison on charges lodged by the Federal Government.



    Outside the Naval Air Station at Alameda, San Francisco, on Monday, students demonstrated against increased American involvement in the Vietnam war. Alameda is home to several US aircraft carriers operating in the war zone. Forty-one people were arrested.



    Later in the day, across the bay in San Francisco, violence broke out in another demonstration, outside the Federal Building. Protestors set fire to a Government station wagon, It was the oulmination of a day of protests outside the building; inside a group of self-styled Vietnam war veterans took over an air force recruitment office. Police arrested the group.



    Other police clared the ares outside....Twenty-one people were taken go prison on charges brought by the Federal Government. The demonstrations were among many staged across the United States.

    Background: The increase in American involvement in the war in Vietnam has sparked new anti-war demonstrations in the United States. In the San Francisco area on Monday two demonstrations turned violent, end many people were arrested.

    At the entrance to Alameda Naval Air Station student tried to block the road to the base by sitting on the tarmac. Police dragged them away. In the afternoon a group of young people gathered in front of the Federal Building in downtown san Francisco. A Government station wagon was set on fire and many demonstrators were arrested.
