    DR. OKOI ARIKPO, THE NIGERIAN FEDERAL EXTERNAL AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER, HAS SAID IN ACCRA THAT HIS GOVERNMENT WOULD SEVER RELATIONS WITH ANY STATE WHICH, LIKE TANZANIA, WOULD RECOGNISE BIAFRA, NIGERIA'S BREAKAWAY EASTERN REGION.

    DR. ARIKPO WAS SPEAKING ON THURSDAY (18 APRIL) WHILE STOPPING OVER AT ACCRA AIRPORT ON THE WAY FROM LAGOS TO MONROVIA, WHERE HE IS TO ATTEND A WEST AFRICAN MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE PROCEEDING A TWO-DAY SUMMIT STARTING TOMORROW (MONDAY).

    HE WAS MET IN THE EXECUTIVE LOUNGE BY MR. F. E. BOATEN, PRINCIPAL SECRETARY OF GHANA'S MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS, THE NIGERIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER IN GHANA, MR. VICTOR ADEGOROYE AND OTHER OFFICIALS OF THE NIGERIAN HIGH COMMISSION.

    DR. ARIKPO SAID: "ANY COUNTRY WHICH RECOGNISES BIAFRA AUTOMATICALLY BREAKS DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH US, BECAUSE THAT IS A HOSTILE ACT WHICH INTERFERES WITH THE TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF NIGERIA."
    THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, HE SAID, WOULD PREFER BIAFRA TO REPENT AND SUE FOR PEACE, AND THAT THE ALTERNATIVE FOR LAGOS WAS TO CARRY THE WAR TO ITS LOGICAL CONCLUSIONS "AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING."
