The Rev. Umberto Righetti is a pastor with a mission. Lately he has been conducting a Protestant conversion campaign in the Catholic town of Frondi, between Rome and Naples. As would be expected he has carried out his mission in the face of much opposition. The situation was has now come to a head, he has been walled up, or rather his two-room 'church' in an old baronial palace has been walled up with him still in it.
The local magistrates granted an order for his eviction on the grounds that he was using a private residence for public worship and, furthermore, he hadn't a license to preach. As a consequence his landlady, a Catholic, hired a contractor to block the door of this Protestant stronghold. When the workmen arrived Umberto refused to leave, so they got on with their job. Now Umberto's converts send up food by rope to his 20 ft. high window. During the day the sounds of strident hymns and heavy piano playing drift out from the 'church' as pastor Righetti continues his campaign.
