    The corn crop in the United States has been reduced by nine per cent representing a loss of $500 million this season by a plant blight coupled with a mild drought. Corn prices have already risen but the prices are not expected to remain significantly higher this winter and in 1971.

    The summer crops is down by 400 million bushels compared with last year but Government officials are confident that there will be ample grain to feed livestock in the coming winter. Despite the blight losses, the corn crop is the third highest in United States history.

    The disease takes the form of a fungus which rots the roots of the plant.
