  • Description

THE GHANAIAN CENTRE FOR CIVIC ADMINISTRATION HAS STARTED AN OPEN AIR FORUM IN ACCRA CALLED THE "CIVIC CORNER" WHERE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC CAN GO TO AIR THEIR VIEW ON NATIONAL ISSUES.

OPENING THE "CIVIC CORNER" ON WEDNESDAY (30 APRIL) THE GENERAL ADMINISTRATOR OF THE CENTRE, MR. J.W.A. SACKEYFIO, SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN CREATED TO ENABLE PEOPLE TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS NOT ONLY ON POLITICAL MATTERS BUT ALSO ON ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL PROBLEMS AFFECTING THE NATION. DISCUSSING THE AVOIDANCE OF VIOLENCE IN PARTY POLITICS, HE APPEALED TO POLITICIANS NOT TO FORCE OPINIONS ON THEIR OPPONENTS AND NOT TO BE ANGRY OVER DISAGREEMENTS, NOR BECOME MIXED UP IN RIOTS OVER MATTERS OF OPINION.

MR. OBESE-JECTY, HEAD OF INFORMATION AND PUBLICITY AT THE CENTRE ALSO ADDRESSED THE AUDIENCE.

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CENTRE HAS JUST BEEN DISSOLVED. AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT SAID THAT IN VIEW OF THE GOVERNMENT'S DECISION TO LIFT THE BAN ON PARTY POLITICAL ACTIVITY, AND VIEW OF THE IMMINENT RESIGNATION OF DR. BUSIA AS CHAIRMAN OF THE CENTRE, IT HAD BECOME NECESSARY TO REORGANISE ITS STRUCTURE.
