  • Description

In Vientiane, Jan 15, the Boun Oum Government put on an airshow, taking off for the first time security precautions on the new American "Havard" fighter planes in Laos. Attending the show, publicised by handbills distributed throughout Vientiane, were the Diplomatic Corps, foreign newsmen and local dignitaries.

Prime Minister Boum Oum, and his Deputy General Phoumi Nosavan, were there to see the flight demonstrations of the T-6 trainer-fighter planes just acquired from the United States.

The T-6's are now engaged in flying sorties over the "rebel" positions in the Plain of Jars and other strongholds, to harass troops movements.

At least 20 years old, the planes equipped with rockets and machine-guns took off from Vientiane's Wattay Airfield in a demonstration fight as people watched from the barricades. The Government said the demonstration would prove that the planes were piloted by Laotians and not by foreigners as alleged.
