    THE UNITED NATIONS COLONIALISM COMMITTEE, WHICH IS ON A FIVE COUNTRY TOUR OF AFRICA, OPENED A NEW SERIES OF TALKS IN ALGIERS ON FRIDAY (JUNE 17), ATTENDED BY DELEGATES FROM 24 COUNTRIES. BRITAIN AND URUGUAY ARE NOT ATTENDING.

    AT THE OPENING SESSION, THE UNITED STATES REPRESENTATIVE ON THE 24-MEMBER COMMITTEE, MRS EUGENIE ANDERSEN, PROTESTED AGAINST ALGERIA AND THE SOVIET UNION RAISING THE QUESTION OF SOUTH VIETNAM. SHE ALSO TOOK EXCEPTION TO REMARKS BY MR. BOUTEFLIKA WHICH, SHE CLAIMED, IMPLIED THAT THE UNITED STATES DID NOT SUPPORT SOUTH VIETNAM'S INDEPENDENCE.

    MR. BOUTEFLIKA TOLD THE COMMITTEE THAT THE SOUTH VIETNAM FRONT FOR NATIONAL LIBERATION, WHICH IS THE POLITICAL ARM OF THE VIETCONG, WAS THE SOLE VALID REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PEOPLE AND THAT ANY OTHER APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM WOULD MEET IN FAILURE.

    MR. PAVEL SHAKOV OF THE SOVIET UNION SUPPORTED THE ALGERIAN POSITION, ADDING: "UNITED STATES IMPERIALISM MUST IMMEDIATELY CEASE ITS AGGRESSIVE WAR AGAINST VIETNAM.
