Background: Thousands of unionists made their way to Le Mans, France on Wednesday (March 26) to show their support for the striking Renault workers. Only hours after they joined forces in a protest march, it was announced the two sides had reached an agreement to end the go-slow which has crippled production for more than six weeks.

Under the terms of the agreement, management will fix a timetable for discussions with the unions over wage demands. In return the unions will end their go-slow.

The unions are demanding an across-the-board salary rise of 250 francs (25 pounds sterling) a month, the reinstatement of 17 sacked workers and full pay for workers who were laid off during the go-slow.)
The seven-week-long go-slow in the factory, which makes suspension and transmission parts, has cut deeply into stocks-forcing Renault to put over 30-thousand workers on short time.
