Background: Latest addition to the West German navy is the 'Gorch Fock'. a sailing ship. She made her maiden voyage in the Baltic, setting out from Flensourg, Feb 27.
Captained by Wolfgand Erhard, the 'Gorch Fock' has a crew of 11 officers and 60 ratings. Eventually she will carry 100 cadet seamen.
While other nations build up their seaborne forces with nuclear powered submarines, West Germany lays the foundation of its future navy.
As she ploughed through the sea in full sail. 'Gorch Fock' passed several other ships of the West German Navy including the latest 'Graf Spee' a former British Royal Navy warship.
