    MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND SUPPORTERS OF INDIA'S RULING CONGRESS PARTY MARCHED THROUGH THE STREETS OF CALCUTTA ON TUESDAY (DECEMBER 14) DEMONSTRATING AGAINST THE UNITED STATES AND IN FAVOUR OF RUSSIA. THE MARCH TOOK THEN FROM THE U.S. CONSULATE TO THE USSR CONSULATE - AND AT BOTH MISSIONS THE DEMONSTRATION'S LEADERS PRESENTED DOCUMENTS TO REPRESENTATIVES OF THE TWO COUNTRIES.

    TO THE AMERICANS, THE NOTE DEPLORED THE U.S. ATTITUDE IN THE INDO-PAKISTAN WAR AND DEMANDED THE TURNAROUND OF THE U.S. SEVENTH FLEET SHIPS REPORTED STEAMING INTO THE BAY OF BENGAL. TO THE RUSSIANS, THE NOTE WAS ONE OF THANKS FOR SOVIET SUPPORT OF INDIA DURING THE CONFLICT.

    SIMILAR DEMONSTRATIONS TOOK PLACE OUTSIDE THE TWO COUNTRIES EMBASSIES IN NEW DELHI. THE PREVIOUS DAY DEMONSTRATORS MAD SMASHED THEIR WAY INTO THE PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS BUILDING IN CALCUTTA AND SET IT ON FIRE.
