  • Description

Chinese Foreign Minister Huang Hua has stopped off in France on his way home from the United States.

SYNOPSIS: Mr. Huang's French visit was just long enough to hold one hour of talks with President Valery Giscard d'Estaing at the Elysee Palace in Paris. He was travelling to Peking form New York where he addressed the United Nations General Assembly. A spokesman for President Giscard said the two men discussed some of the problem affecting the world. He said these included detente, east-west relations, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East. The President's spokesman declared that relations between China and France were also discussed.

After the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Minister used an interpreter to speak to newsmen. He said that he and the French President had an interesting conversation on the state of relations between their two countries. He told reporters that the friendship and co-operation existing between France and China received a major boost in 1975 when Vice-Premier Teng Tsiao-Ping visited Paris. Mr. Huang said there was no doubt that the continuing improvement of Sino-French relations was in the interest of the people of both countries and of the whole world.

This was the first high-level meeting between France and China since Chairman Hua Kuo-feng came into power.
