Sweden's star tennis player, 19-year-old Bjorn Borg, defeated Eddie Dibbs of U.S. in the quarter?
Sweden's star tennis player, 19-year-old Bjorn Borg, defeated Eddie Dibbs of U.S. in the quarter finals of the U.S. Open Championships on Thursday (4 September).
Borg took almost three hours and four sets to subdue Dibbs by 6-4, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. Dibbs' place in the quarter finals was a surprise in itself. He was unseeded and beat fourth seed Arthur Ashe, this year's Wimbledon champion, to take the position. However, he is regarded as one of the best U.S. players on clay courts.
Both Borg and Dibbs suffered from cramp during the final set. The match was marked by long rallies.
Borg will now meet either Jimmy Connors or Andrew Pattison in the semi-finals on Saturday (6 September).
