  • Description

Britain's newest liner, the GBP16 million "Canberra", arrived Port Said June 8 on its maiden voyage to Australia and the United States. She entered the Suez Canal June 9. The 45,000-ton ship, biggest vessel built in Britain since the "Queen Elizabeth," is carrying 2,238 passengers - more than any other liner afloat.

"Canberra", latest addition to the P & O-Orient fleet, has a welded aluminum superstructure with turbo-electric engines aft topped by giant twin vents. An estimated 20,000 visitors will inspect the liner at many ports during its three-month, 40,000-mile voyage.
