  • Description

Although the majority of the demonstrators began heading for home after the massive anti-war rally on Saturday (24 April), some of the more militant of the contingents stayed in Washington to plan a week-long civil disobedience campaign in the nation's capital. Many of the estimated one quarter to one half million demonstrators spent Saturday night encamped on the grounds near the Washington monument. On Sunday (25 April), the demonstrators cleaned the grounds near the Capitol Building and headed home.

The more militant "People's Coalition for Peace and Justice" gathered near the Lincoln Memorial to finalist their plans. Their campaign will climax on 3 May, with thousands of war protestors trying to disrupt traffic and paralyse access routes to Washington during rush-hours.
