Background: More than 6 million and half people joined the 36th Central May Day celebration all over the country today at 750 places throughout Japan. The weather is fine and 600,000 people participated in the Tokyo May Day Celebration at the Tokyo Plazza, former Olympic Village in Tokyo this morning. Mr. Kahoru Ohota, Chairman of the Japan Federation of Labour Union (the fat man with glass) reads a message and appeal to the public such as raising the wages of labourers, stop raising the commodities price and 6 days work and 42 hours a week basis. He emphasises that in order to preserve peace and tranquillity of labourers, we have to demand the United States to stay away from Vietnam and stop bombing North Vietnam which will create international tension in Asia and we have to force the United States to stop her interference with Vietnam problems which might involve Japan in the war. After the celebration, 600,000 participants in Tokyo were divided into 5 different units and marched the streets of Tokyo. More than 10,000 policemen were mobilised to guard and traffic control of the city as it is feared that there might be some turmoil during the parade of May Day celebrations between the demonstrators and the police, however, it was ended peacefully and the participants enjoyed the May Day Celebration. The participants histed a lot of red flags and placards mostly accusing American aggression on Vietnam and some demanding the United States should stay away from Vietnam immediately and the others are more wages and less working hours and do not boost the commodities price and so on. Anyway the May Day celebration was ended peacefully which was the largest May Day celebration last twenty years.
