Soccer...and in Lille, the French World Cup squad had wound up its preparations for the competition which opens in Argentina next month, with a 2-0 victory against fellow finalists Tunisia in a friendly match.

SYNOPSIS: Tunisia, in the light shirts, Africa's sole representatives in the World Cup finals, were not expected to provide serious opposition for the French, yet it was they who came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half.

In the ninth minute, Temime Lahzami centred and centre forward Ali Akid put in a volley which French goalkeeper Jean-Paul Betrand-Demanes saved.

The Tunisians were playing fast, alert football and though here, France had an unsuccessful shot at goal, the attacking initiative was with the North African team-particularly the elusive Lahzami. The French defence were unable to control him.

Twice within five minutes, Lahzami came close to scoring. First he fired just over the crossbar and then had a shot cleared off the line by Christian Lopewz. The French team, confident at the start seemed in trouble by half time.

But the second half was a different story. French star forward Michel Platini had come on just before half-time as substitute and in the 70th minute proved his value. He opened the French scoring with a bold goal.

Platini's presence seemed to re-invigorate the French attack and they cut deep into the now faltering Tunisian team. A few minutes later, the outcome of the match was put beyond doubt when Christian Dalger seized on a defensive error after a corner by Platini and hit the ball home from close range.
