  • Description

Mr. Bahi Ladgham, the former Prime Minister of Tunisia, returned to Jordan on Monday (November the 16th) to resume his mission as chairman of the Arab Committee charged with reconciling the Jordan Government and the Palestine resistance movement.

He was met at the airport by the Jordan Prime Minister Mr. Wasfi Tell, representatives of the committee, and truce observers.

Mr. Ladgham stepped down as Prime Minster early this month to resume his role with the Arab Higher Committee. Earlier he had spent some time in Amman leading the committee which begun implementing agreements between the government and commandos. The agreements ended the September fighting between Jordanian troops and commandos and laid down the basis of a relationship between Jordanian authorities and the commandos.

Meanwhile, 83 people were reported killed or wounded in clashes between commandos and Jordanian forces in Irbid and in the Irbid to Jarash road in northern Jordan yesterday. Six Jordanian soldiers and six civilians were reported killed. This was the first major flare-up between the two sides since the September fighting.
