    PRESIDENT QAHTAN MUHAMMAD AS-SHAABI, OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTHERN YEMEN, LAST SUNDAY (13 OCTOBER) SPOKE BEFORE A MASS RALLY IN ADEN ON THE EVE OF ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS COMMEMORATING THE OCTOBER 14TH REVOLUTION STARTED BY THE NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT (N.L.F.) IN 1963.

    SPEAKING FROM THE BALCONY OF THE "14 OCTOBER PALACE", ORIGINALLY THE SULTANS OF LAHEJ PALACE, THE PRESIDENT WAVED A COPY OF THE N.L.F. CHARTER AT THE CROWD.

    HE LATER PRESENTED THE CHARTER TO A YOUNG GIRL NAMED "DAUGHTER OF REVOLUTION", WHO WAS BORN ON 14 OCTOBER, 1963.

    IN HIS SPEECH, THE PRESIDENT REPORTEDLY CALLED UPON HIS PEOPLE TO TOLERATE FURTHER AUSTERITY TO HELP GOVERNMENT PLANS TO OVERCOME FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES. HE ANNOUNCED HIS GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS TO ESTABLISH A LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY AND INTRODUCE A PROVISIONAL CONSTITUTION.

    IN ADDITION TO THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH, THERE WERE PERFORMANCES BY TRIBAL SWORD DANCERS AND A LOCAL YOUTH BAND.

    A MODEL ROCKET IN NATIONAL COLOURS WAS DISPLAYED.

    A NUMBER OF DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATIVES WERE PRESENT DURING THE RALLY.

    THE N.L.F. CAME INTO POWER IN THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTHERN YEMEN ON 30 NOVEMBER, 1967, AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF THE LAST BRITISH TROOPS IN THE AREA.
