Triple World Champion motor racing driver, Jackie Stewart, is taking to the racing circuits of Europe in an unusual saloon car ... his aim is not to win races but to give newsmen and television commentators a driver's-eye-view of a racing circuit.
He uses a three-litre Tyrrell Ford Capri, fitted with four cameras ... three outside and one inside. The car is also wired for sound for on-the-spot interviews and to enable the driver to give step-by-step comments on what is needed to pilot the car around the track at speeds of more than 125 miles an hour (200 kph).
The first of the planned series of demonstrations took place recently at England's Silverstone circuit which is staging two world-standard formula-one races this year. The Scot's familiar tartan-ringed helmet will be seen showing newsmen-and television viewers-how it is done before the Monaco, Belgian, French, British and German Grand Prix races.
