  • Description

    Sir Earle Page,
78-year-old former Premier of Australia, and Miss Jean Thomas, 49, his secretary
for 14 years, were married in the chapel of St.Michael and St.George at
St.Paul's Cathedral, London, July 20. The chapel is that of the order of
St.Michael and St.George, or which Sir Earle is a senior member. Only one or two
weddings a year are held at the Cathedral, and always by special permission of
    the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Sir Earle has had a distinguished career in politics - he was the leader of the
Australian Country Party from 1920 to 1939, and during the Second World War was
Australia's representative in the War Cabinet in Britain.

The bride was given away by Sir Eric Harrison, Australian High Commissioner in
London, and the best man was another former Prime Minister of Australia, Lord
    Bruce.

Sir Earle Page's first wife died last year after 52 years of marriage.
