Background: A helicopter today (Friday) brought down French climber Rene Desmaison from the Alpine peak where he had been stranded without food for nearly a week--but his companion, Serge Gousseault, was dead. The rescue was only possible after vicious gale force winds, which had foiled previous rescue bids, had subsided.
After filming the return of the helicopter with the dead mountaineer, our cameraman left the scene to make his shipment time. For the return of the survivor after the helicopter went back to pick him up, we have had to use a telerecording of the French Television (DRAFT) coverage transmitted over the Eurovision network by the BBC. Most of this, which is about the last 20 feet of this film, is in black and white. We apologies for the poor quality of the telerecording, which is below our usual standards.
