    Only two days after a long and trying journey by air from Britain, the Barbarian Rugby Team (affectionately known to rugger enthusiasts as the BAA-BAAS) drew their opening match against the Transvaal at Ellis Park, Johannesburg, today, each side gaining oen goal and five tries to draw 17 - 17.

    The crowd of 45,000 assembled in Ellis park, some of the recent South Africa V Australia cricket test series, were treated to spectacular rugger. Smith of Scotland and O'Reilly of Ireland scored all the tries - Smith crossing the line three times, O'Reilly twice. Terry Davies of Wales had an off-day and converted only once.

    Welsh International star Cliff Morgan revealed all his old accomplishments at fly-half, and outstanding among the forwards were Williams and Evans.

    The Transvaal tries were scored by Kaminer, Nel, Prinsloo, Gericke, and Pelser. Buys kicked the conversion.
