A young Arab was shot dead in the Israeli occupied West Bank town of Nablus on Saturday (1 May). The shooting occurred while speakers at May Day rallies were calling for a reconciliation between Jews and Arabs.
The latest death was the seventh in disturbances on the West Bank this year. It happened during a clash between stone-throwing Arabs and an Israeli military patrol in the narrow streets of the ancient Casbah, the same troublespot were a 55-year-old man was shot dead last month.
Saturday's 22-year-old victim was buried the same afternoon.
On the same day security forces also clashed with demonstrators in the towns of Jenin and Turkarem and the latter was put under a temporary curfew in a bid to keep the peace.
Most of the violence has been triggered off because of the Arab's opposition to Jewish settlement on the West Bank.
Speakers at May Day rallies inside Israel on Saturday attacked latest settlement attempts by ultra-nationalistic Jews in the occupied territory.
