  • Description

President Tito of Yugoslavia received a red carpet welcome when he arrived in Bonn today (Sunday, October the 11th) on a brief informal visit to have talks with the Chancellor Herr Brandt.

Herr Brandt was at the airport with the Foreign Minister, Herr Scheel, to meet the Yugoslav leader. This was the latest of a series of contacts between the West German Government and Communist leaders.

President Tito became the first communist head of state to visit West Germany. He flew to Bonn after official visits to Belgium and Luxembourg.

After leaving the airport the President and Chancellor drove to Roettgen castle, between Bonn and Cologne, for talks over lunch, and afterwards they had further discussions.

Later, Herr Brandt told reporters they had discussed European security, West Germany's Eastern Europe policy, the Middle East situation and President Nixon's recent visit to Belgrade.
