ASHFORD: "The explosion was followed by fire and the damage was therefore extensive. The building is in Belfast's main street where it's normally difficult for anyone with a large parcel to evade spot checks by police and troops. Nevertheless, someone managed to deposit a package of between 20 and 50 pounds of explosives on a floor of this shop. The bomb, was discovered 10 minutes before telephone warnings and the area had been cleared. Nobody was hurt. Some hours later a 50 to 100 pound bomb left by a youth and a girl, demolished an electrical firm. When the building was evacuated one man, a fitter, was accidentally left behind. Luckily, he was only dazed and was taken from the wreckage shortly before flames enveloped what left."
