  • Description

The twentieth session of the Chad Lake Basin Commission opened in N'Djamena this week. The Commission, which comprises Cameroun, the Niger Republic, Nigeria and Chad, was set up in N'Djamena in May 1964 to promote economic development in the area.

The meeting was to have been held in May last year but was delayed because of last year's coup d'etat in Niger, and was postponed again because of another coup d'etat in Chad in April this year.

Before the session opened, experts from member countries had held a week long meeting during which they discussed problems relating to agriculture, stock breeding, forestry, fishing, civil engineering, telecommunications and economic relations. They also discussed a draft budget for next year.

The session was opened by Colonel Djimet Mamari Nakinar, Vice President of Chad's Superior Military Council.
