    TANZANIAN PRESIDENT JULIUS NYERERE LAST SATURDAY (1 MARCH) OPENED A FOUR-WEEK CONFERENCE IN DAR-ES-SALAAM OF ALL OF HIS COUNTRY'S AMBASSADORS AND HIGH COMMISSIONERS. THE CONFERENCE, WHICH HAS BEGUN WITH EIGHT DAYS OF CLOSED-DOOR MEETINGS, WAS CALLED TO DISCUSS NATIONAL POLICY.

    A TANZANIAN GOVERNMENT STATEMENT SAID THAT THE AIM OF THE CONFERENCE WAS TO MAKE DIPLOMATS UNDERSTAND CLEARLY THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY'S POLICY OF SOCIALISM AND SELF-RELIANCE.

    AMONG THOSE TAKING PART IN THE CONFERENCE ARE MR. G. RUTABANZIBWA, THE AMBASSADOR TO WASHINGTON, D.C.; MR. P.P. MURO, THE AMBASSADOR TO LONDON; AND MR. A.K. TIBANDEBAGE, THE AMBASSADOR TO PARIS.

    MR. RASHIDI KAWAWA, THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT, TOOK PART IN SATURDAY'S MEETING, AS DID THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS.

    DURING THE COURSE OF THE CONFERENCE, THE ENVOYS WILL BE ADDRESSED BY DR. NYERERE AND OTHER GOVERNMENT AND PARTY LEADERS, AND WILL TOUR VARIOUS REGIONS OF THE COUNTRY.
