    RUSSIAN FOREIGN TRADE MINISTER NIKOLAT PATOLICHEV OPENED THE SOVIET TRADE EXHIBITION IN PARIS, SEPT 4, WITH A MESSAGE FROM PRIME MINISTER KHRUSHCHEV. HE SAID THAT MR. KHRUSHCHEV HAD ASKED HIM TO GIVE THE FRENCH HIS "CORDIAL GREETINGS AND WISHES FOR A PEACEFUL LIFE". THE EXHIBITION IS BEING HELD IN VERSAILLES PARK. ALSO PRESENT WAS RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR VINOGRADOV WHO CUT THE TAPE ACROSS THE ENTRANCE HALL.

    DUE TO RUN A MONTH IT IS THE FIRST RUSSIAN EXHIBITION TO BE STAGED IN THE FRENCH CAPITAL SINCE 1937. IT IS ALMOST THE SAME SHOW THAT WAS SEEN IN LONDON EARLIER IN THE YEAR, DEMONSTRATING THOUSANDS OF ITEMS FROM SPACE CRAFT TO INDUSTRIAL GOODS. ALREADY THE FASHION WISE PARISIANS ARE SHOWING A GOOD DEAL OF INTEREST IN THE DISPLAY OF RUSSIAN FASHIONS.

    ON THE DAY THE SOVIET EXHIBITION IN PARIS OPENED MR. KHRUSHCHEV TOURED THE FRENCH SHOW IN MOSCOW. HERE HE COMMENTED TO NEWSMEN THAT THE "POLITICAL SITUATION IS VERY TENSE. BUT COMMERCIAL EXCHANGES DO NOT REFLECT THIS AND THAT IS A VERY GOOD SIGN." DURING HIS TOUR OF THE STANDS THE RUSSIAN LEADER CRITICIZED A PICASSO PAINTING AND THE NUMBER OF PHOTOGRAPHS ON VIEW. HE SAID THAT THE BRITISH, JAPANESE AND FRENCH EXHIBITIONS WERE ALL BETTER THAN AMERICAN EXHIBITION HELD IN MOSCOW TWO YEARS AGO.

    IN BOTH PARIS AND MOSCOW, RUSSIAN AND FRENCH TRADE OFFICIALS EXPRESSED THE HOPE THAT THERE WOULD BE MORE TRADE BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES IN THE FUTURE.
