  • Description

Folksinger Joan Baez was released from jail Thursday (Oct. 26) after serving a ten-day sentence for her part in an antiwar sit-in at the Oakland, California Armed Forces Induction Center.

Miss Baez and more than 100 other demonstrators were arrested October 15 after they refused to obey police and leave the induction center. She said she was assigned to garden work at the Alameda County Jail farm. As she left, she sang a song for her fellow prisoners. They shouted, "Come back, Joanie, and see us again. We love you."
Miss Baez said her jail term was worth it and that she'd probably do it again. She called it among "the best things I have done in my life."
