    Thousands of Canadians stood in long lines Sunday night (Oct. 18) to view the body of slain Quebec Labour Minister Pierre LaPorte, lying in state at the Palais de Justice, Montreal.

    Members of the LaPorte family earlier had visited the coffin.

    LaPorte, who was found shot to death late Sunday night, will be buried on Tuesday, Funeral services will take place at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal.

    LaPorte had been held for a week by separatist terrorists who demanded the release of 23 prisoners in exchange for his freedom. British Trade Minister James Cross, abducted a week before LaPorte, still remains missing.

    Flags in Montreal were flown at half-staff after the finding of the body.
