THE TANKER'S MASTER, CAPTAIN HARITIDES, HAD IGNORED REPEATED GREEK GOVERNMENT WARNING NOT TO LAND AT BEIRA AND TODAY WAS STRIPPED OF HIS CAPTAIN'S LICENCE FOR LIFE.

    IN LONDON, SEVERAL COMMONWEALTH ENVOYS MET AND REPORTEDLY URGED BRITAIN TO LET THE UNITED NATIONS MAKE OIL AND OTHER ECONOMIC SANCTIONS AGAINST RHODESIA MANDATORY FOR ALL MEMBERS NATIONS. THESE MEMBERS OF THE COMMONWEALTH SANCTIONS COMMITTEE REPRESENT BRITAIN AND 20 OTHER COMMONWEALTH NATIONS.

    AT THE MEETING OF THE BRITISH CABINET'S DEFENCE AND OVERSEAS POLICY COMMITTEE, MR. WILSON HEARD A REPORT ON RHODESIA FROM MR. MALCOLM MACDONALD HIS SPECIAL ENVOY TO EAST AND CENTRAL AFRICA. LORD CARADON, BRITAIN'S CHIEF UNITED NATIONS' DELEGATE ATTENDED. HE WAS RECALLED YESTERDAY FOR URGENT CONSULTATIONS. THESE DISCUSSIONS ARE EXPECTED TO LAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS. AT THE FOREIGN OFFICE THE BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY, MR. MICHAEL STEWART GAVE DR. DE WET AN ACCOUNT OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT'S LATEST VIEWS ON RHODESIA.

    AT THE UNITED NATIONS THE SECRETARY-GENERAL U THANT TOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE THAT BRITAIN WAS CONSIDERING FURTHER MEASURES AGAINST RHODESIA AND MANDATORY SANCTIONS COULD NOT BE RULED OUT.
