    During U.S. Navy acceptance tests of the new 60,000-ton aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, dummies representing planes were recently shot from the flight deck by the ship's steam catapults.

    The dummies weighed up to 45 tons, and the first two practice shots sent the dummies 500 and 700 respectively into the Delaware River, New York. Later, the catapults will be used for launching heavy jet bombers. Launching speeds of the catapults is from 80 to 150 knots.
