Background: Cyprus police swooped on an isolated area north of Limassol on Wednesday (July 25) and arrested several wanted men and uncovered quantities of arms and ammunition. It was the latest stage in the government's drive to break the power of the underground armed groups organised by former Eoke guerrilla leader General George Grivas.
Several men alleged to be Grivas supporters were filmed as they appeared in court in Nicosia today (Thursday). Nine of the total eleven men arrested appeared in court. Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation had earlier reported that two of the had been injured when the police tried to arrest them, and had been admitted to hospital.
