  • Description

Rioting flared up in Chatanooga, Tennessee, this weekend after a soul-singer failed to turn up for a pop concert. Two thousand National Guardsmen were called in and issued with live ammunition, and a warning was put out that the troops would shoot in defence of human lives. The disorder continued for three days, mostly in the city's Negro sectors.

The city, meanwhile, has been suffering racial tension for sometime now sever a dispute about desegregation of schools. This film shows some excellent night scenes of huge fires blazing in the city centre. Civil disorder is rare in Tennessee, and the last time the National Guard was called in to quell riots in the state was following the killing of Dr Martin Luther King.
