Dermatologists, medical students and connoisseurs of well-tailored garments were splendidly catered for at the "Miss Bikini International' contest, held in Caracas, Venezuela on Saturday (10 September). The winner was Rosario Fragoso of Colombia, who beguiled judges and spectators alike with her flashing smile and enviable suntan. The ??? girls who took part were from North and South America, the Caribbean and Europe.
SYNOPSIS: Judging was agonising work.
Among the first in view was Miss Austria. Before appearing in their bikinis, the girls had paraded in cocktail gowns and one-piece swimsuits. Only clothmakers had enjoyed these sections more.
Miss Canada, Diane Rulloup, missed the final 12, but was chosen as Miss Photogenic.
Miss France, Brigitte Aube, the only blonde and European among five finalists. The others were deeply-tanned brunettes from South America and the Caribbean.
Miss Italy showed that, like Rome, the ancient capital of her homeland, she was not built in a day.
Devout patriots led the cheering for Miss Venezuela, and hometown girl, Mari Brown. But the judges, a panel of show business personalities, showed their judgement was untainted.
Finally, the crown went to Rosario Fragoso. Clearly her deportment, vitality and evident good health had helped her gain the crown. Senorita Fragoso received a tiara, handsome trophy and the bikini world's equivalent of an Oscar. The organisers were delighted that culture had been served and, most importantly, that none of the contestants had sneezed at a crucial moment.
