United States Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, who must be the most travelled politician?
United States Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, who must be the most travelled politician in the world, left the United States again on Friday (17 October) to visit Japan. He is on his way to the capital of China, Peking.
While in Japan, Dr. Kissinger will hold talks with the Prime Minister, Takeo Miki, Deputy Prime Minister, Takeo Fukuda and the Finance Minister, Masayoshi Ohira.
Dr. Kissinger is expected to discuss with the Japanese leaders the problems of Korea and the forthcoming economic summit conference in France.
Dr.Kissinger's visit to China is his eight. Observers believe the main purpose of his visit to Peking this time is to pave the way for President Ford's proposed visit to China before the end of this year.
President Ford's tour of China will be in marked contrast to former President Nixon's visit in February 1972.....a trip which caused a deep diplomatic split between Japan and the United States as Japanese leaders claimed they were not consulted about Nixon's intentions.
