  • Description

The Apollo 15 astronauts ended their intensive training period today (22 July), and began a new relaxed schedule before starting their 12-day mission to the moon.

The three men, declared healthy by space agency doctors on Wednesday (21 July), will maintain their proficiency with light training until next Monday's (26 July) launching.

Commander David Scott and Lunar Module pilot James Irwin will spend their time going over their checklists for the periods before and after their three expeditions across the moon's surface. Command Module pilot Alfred Worden, who will orbit the moon while his fellow astronauts are on the surface, has been spending a lot of time recently in a Module simulator.

Scott and Irwin will spend a total of 67 hours on the moon's surface. They will use a four-wheeled Lunar Roving Car to visit various geological features including one of the moon's highest mountain ranges.

This film shows Commander Scott talking at a press conference, and shows various shots of the astronauts rehearsing in the Lunar Roving Car and collecting samples...Scott's voice provides the commentary throughout the film and there is no introductory opening on the commentary.
