SCRIPTING: The Central Highlands of South Viet-Nam have been coming under increasing pressure over the past two weeks. Early in the 'Spring' offensive the area was under heavy pressure, but Govt forces managed to hold the NVA forces in check, and prevented the capture of any major town in the highlands. Activity has heightened again recently, and it would appear the area once again will become a major battlefield. The village of My Thach was besieged for some days, and constant bombing raids chose to the defenders prevented a Communist takeover. The firebase in the area are being strengthened, but further west several basses have either been lost to the advancing NVA, or abandoned by Govt. forces. Families of the defenders are being removed to more secure areas, and most have to be carried out by air, as most roads are in partial control of the NVA. Backbone of the South Viet. forces in the highlands are the Montagnards - mountain people. They know their own region wall, and are good at operating in the mountains. Much will depend on them in the coming battle (s).
