    On May 21, China released 120 wounded or sick Vietnamese armed personnel who had been captured in China's self-defensive war with Viet Nam. This is the first group of captured Vietnamese armed personnel released by the Chinese Government in accordance with revolutionary humanitarianism.

    Farewell parties were held for the leaving Vietnamese captives at detention camps and hospitals. During their custody in China, the vietnamese captives were given meticulous medical treatment and attention to their daily life by Chinese medical personnel. The Vietnamese captives repeatedly expressed their thanks to the Chinese medical personnel.Embraces like these are not rare.

    At 11:20 hours, the delegations of the Chinese and Vietnamese Red Cross Societies met with each other and went through the formalities at the zero kilometre mark of the road from Youyi Pass to Dong Dang.

    At the invitation of the Chinese Red Cross Society, Dominique Borel, representative of the Red Cross International Committee, was present at the zero kilometre mark to witness the handling of the release.

    The Chinese Red Cross delegation delivered to the Vietnamese counterpart a "list of names of captured Vietnamese armed personnel to be turned over" and 41 "certificates of disability for captives". The Vietnamese Red Cross delegation handed to the Chinese side a "list of captured Chinese soldiers and wounded and sick personnel", which gave the names of 43 Chinese captives scheduled to be released.

    The Chinese side used ambulances and buses to carry the sick and wounded Vietnamese captives to Youyi Pass from Aikou Railway Station in the city of Pingxiang. The repatriated Vietnamese then went on foot or were carried on stretchers to the zero kilometre mark. They reached there at 12:40 and were turned over to the Vietnamese Red Cross delegation.

    When the released Vietnamese captives crossed into Viet Nam, their packs and personnel belongings were seized the thrown away by Vietnamese security personnel.

    After releasing the captured Vietnamese armed personnel, the Chinese Red Cross delegation received the 43 wounded or sick Chinese captives released by the Vietnamese side.
