  • Description

A new cancer center has gone up in the Hiyiu woods outside Tallinn, the capital of Esthonia.

Here a successful effort is made to combat malignant tumors.

The patients register for consultations by phone.

The first check-up is made by a panel of doctors. Among them are physicians, surgeons, and cancer specialists.

The cancer center near Tallinn is equipped with the most up-to-date X-ray apparatus.

Such check-ups are made for cancer prevention. The result is a reduction of cancer cases among the adult population of Tallinn.

But if the misfortune occurred, the Soviet doctors prove that surgery can help out. There are here three operation theatres with the most modern equipment.

The centre's radiological building houses the patients who are on the way to recovery. The doctor fixes the radiological gun and then observes the patient's condition from the control room, maintaining contact all the time through closed circuit television.

The cosy hospital wards are for one or two people.

The premises have a centralised oxygen supply and are equipped with TV signal systems.

The new cancer center is the gift of the building-workers and doctors for the 50th anniversary of Soviet government.
