  • Description

President N'Garta Tombalbaye of the Republic of Chad is a firm believer in physical fitness -- not only for the country's general public but for his government ministers and military leaders.

So, on Saturday (11 January), members of the Executive Council of the Republic's ruling National Movement for Social and Cultural Promotion competed in a cross-country running race against officers of the country's armed forces.

The event also commemorated the fifteenth anniversary of the Central African state's independence from France and was marked by a festive air, with crowds of onlookers and laughing children lining the race route.

After the race, President Tombalbaye declared it a great success and held a reception for the participants, telling them that such events were essential to the country's welfare, because "there is fraternity in effort."
