Background: President Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo held talks with French President Valery Giscard D'Estaing at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Thursday (11 September) on the revision of co-operation agreements between their two countries.

The talks are a continuation of this proposed revision, instigated in November last year when President Eyadema first met with President Giscard D'Estaing.

President Eyadema and his party of seven cabinet ministers will be in france for ten days this time. The Togo leader told newsmen that he and President Giscard D'Estaing would be reviewing the progress made since their last meeting.

President Eyadema also met with French Prime Minster Jacques Chirac and Defence Minster Pierre Abelin. They later announced the signing of a contract for the sale of six French fighter aircraft to Togo.

Few details of the meeting between the two leaders are available, but the Togo leader described the talks as being "very fruitful".
