    TRADE UNION LEADERS IN LAGOS, NIGERIA, YESTERDAY (MONDAY), CALLED OFF THE THREE-DAY-OLD GENERAL STRIKE, WHICH HAD THROWN A THREAT OF INDUSTRIAL PARALYSIS OVER THE REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS.THE END OF THE STRIKE CAME AFTER AN 8 HOUR MEETING WITH LABOUR LEADERS, WHO HAVE BEEN DEMANDING A COMMISSION ON WAGES, AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS.

    AN ESTIMATED 200,000 WORKERS HAVE BEEN ON STRIKE.THEY WERE CALLED OUT BY THE UNITED LABOUR CONGRESS, AND THE NIGERIAN TRADE UNION CONGRESS.RAILWAYMEN AND ELECTRICITY WORKERS WERE IN THE FOREFRONT OF THE DEMONSTRATION, AND THEY WERE SOON JOINED BY WORKERS FROM THE LAGOS MUNICIPAL TRANSPORT AUTHORITY.
