President and Mrs. Lyndon Johnson announced Sunday evening (10 Sept.) the engagement of their eldest daughter Lynda Bird, to Marine Captain Charles Robb. The couple will marry in December.
Captain Robb who is 28 years old, and lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, gave Miss Johnson an engagement ring Saturday night (9 Sept.) at the Johnson family ranch near Johnson City, Texas.
The date for the wedding has not been set. Captain Robb is adjutant at the marine Barracks in Washington. he also serves as a social aide at the White House. That means he is usually on hand for state functions to serve as an escort to either the President's daughters or other unescorted ladies and perform a wide variety of social functions.
Captain Robb and Miss Johnson have been seeing each other frequently for the last several months and have spent a number of weekends together at Rehobota Beach, Deleware, popular summer resort to Washington families.
Until she began seeing Captain Robb, Miss Johnson was a frequent companion of United States movie actor George Hamilton and had visited many well known society resorts with him such as Acapulco, Mexico.
Both Miss Johnson and Captain Robb are Episcopalian (the United states branch of the Church of England). The White House says the wedding will follow the pattern of the Johnsons' younger daughter Luci, who married Patrick Nugent in August of 1966. Only family and friends are to be invited.
Captain Robb is scheduled to go to Viet Nam in late February or early March of next year.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Robb of Milwaukee and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and has a bachelor's degree in business administration.
