THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF GAMBIA'S STAND CAME IN AN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE SIGNED BY TAIWAN PREMIER C.K. YEN AND SIR DAWDA.

IN A STATEMENT SHORTLY AFTER HIS ARRIVAL, SIR DAWDA SAID IT WOULD SURPRISE NONE THAT RELATIONS BETWEEN GAMBIA AND TAIWAN HAD BEEN SO CLOSE AND CORDIAL SINCE GAMBIA ATTAINED INDEPENDENCE IN 1965.

DURING HIS FOUR-DAY STAY IN TAIWAN SIR DAWDA AND HIS PARTY TOURED INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS, INCLUDING A VISIT TO A TEXTILE FACTORY WHOSE FABRICS ARE SOLD IN GAMBIA.

LATER THE PARTY INSPECTED A DEMONSTRATION FARM. A 13-MEMBER TAIWAN FARMING DEMONSTRATION TEAM IS CURRENTLY IN GAMBIA WORKING TO INCREASE RICE PRODUCTION THERE.

ONE OF THE FINAL CALLS ON SIR DAWDA'S TOUR WAS A VISIT TO THE SUN-MOON LAKE OUTSIDE TAIWAN, SIR DAWDA AND HIS ENTOURAGE TOOK A BOAT RIDE ACROSS THE LAKE TO A SHOPPING AREA WHERE THEY BOUGHT SOUVENIRS.
